Translation:
A DETECTIVE'S CRIME (That's the name they gave the movie here in Brazil)
Robert Downey Jr and an almost unrecognizable Mel Gibson star in this homage to the film noir.
Robert Downey Jr is, without a doubt, one of the most talented actors of his generation and whoever has forgotten about that can be reminded by this movie. He performs under a full body make-up to show the degenerative skin disease of his character. Because of such disease, Downey can't walk, has limited movement of arms and legs, stays on his bed most of the time and barely says a word. That alone can tell you that this performance wasn't exactly easy for the actor, but even so, he manages to do very well, showing big range - going from hatred to sadness in seconds.
In Crimes of a Detective he is Dan Dark, a writer, who suffers from a horrible skin disease and who is writing a story in his head. It is through this work of fiction that Dark will face the ghosts of his past, which are responsible for his ailment. At the moment he imagines the story, the movie becomes a noir production with excellent scenes and entertaining characters. Besides that, the movie has a touch of black humor, some comedy and even includes Dark's personal drama. Special attention to Mel Gibson's part, as a bald pyschiatrist and also to Adrien Brody in his first post-Oscar performance. The DVD offers the director's audio commentary (subtitled in Portuguese) and that's it.
