Thanks to Alan for the news :) From Batman Hype! Neeson & Freeman Confirmed for Nolan's Batman! Source: Variety Thursday, February 19, 2004 Morgan Freeman and Liam Neeson are confirmed to have joined the cast of Warner Bros.' new Batman film, reports Variety. Freeman will play Lucius Fox, a respected businessman and the CEO of billionaire Bruce Wayne's mega-conglom, based in Gotham City. Liam Neeson plays the villain, Ra's al Ghul, a wealthy international terrorist. Christian Bale stars as the Caped Crusader in the Christopher Nolan-helmed project which will start shooting March 16 in London. Also cast are Michael Caine (as butler Alfred), Cillian Murphy and Katie Holmes. PLAT-MAN Wharf restaurant Plateau has a table booked for Batman's alter-ego Bruce Wayne, played by American Psycho's Christian Bale. Warner Brothers is in talks to hire the Canada-Square restaurant over a weekend in March or April - transforming it for a hotel restaurant scene starring Bale and love interest, Dawson's Creek star Katie Holmes. An insider said: "Staff at the restaurant can't stop talking about Batman - it's really exciting." The new $150million blockbuster, currently titled Batman - Intimidation, is the fifth cinematic instalment from the caped crusader. Welshman Bale, 30, is donning the cape worn twice by Michael Keaton, then by Val Kilmer and George Clooney. The film, due for release in July 2005, will also star Oscar winner Michael Caine as Wayne's loyal Butler Alfred Pennyworth. Irish actor Cilliam Murphy is set to follow in the footsteps of Jack Nicholson, Jim Carey and Michelle Pfeiffer as the latest Batman villain. Murphy, star of Girl With A Pearl Earring, will take on the role of the Scarecrow - the alter-ego of psychologist Jonathan Crane who wreaks havoc after being fired from Gotham State University. Liam Neeson is also tipped to take a villainous role, which started filming in London this month. The new movie is to be directed by Englishman Christopher Nolan, the man behind Memento and Insomnia. It harks back to Batman's younger years. Nolan aims to reinvent Bruce Wayne as a modern-day James Bond-type character. "What they're doing with Batman is making it as though it's never been made before," said Caine. A spokesperson for Plateau declined to comment. |
