Katie Holmes
“ My heartbreaking goodbyes to Dawson’s Creek”
The shy Joey has become a star that all Hollywood wants. But in spite of this incredible ascent, Katie Holmes won't to forget her amazing years on the set of Dawson’s Creek.
TELE STAR: The Dawson’s Creek adventure ended last spring, what are your memories of it ?
Katie: When I think of the last days of shooting, I still have teary eyes. I’ll remember this day: April 13th 2003, all my life. It was a Sunday. When the director said that it was a wrap (we just had shot a dramatic scene) , I bursted into tears.
TELESTAR: Was it really that terrible ?
Katie: The friendship that I shared with my castmates, the crew, all people from Wilmington, it won’t disappear with just one clap of fingers. My Dawson’s Creek years will live forever in me. During almost seven years we lived an unique adventure with passion and energy. We were like a tribe far away from everything and everyone.
TELESTAR: Did you sell your house in Wilmington ?
Katie: Yes, I had no choice but to close this chapter of my life. I bought another house in LA. In Wilmington, I lived near Josh, James, Kerr and Michelle. We really needed each other. I’ll do everything to keep in touch with all of them. I must admit that being used to California is not easy all days.
TELESTAR: Did Joey, your character, finally choose between Dawson and Pacey ?
Katie: I would have loved finishing with Pacey, Joey and him grew up together. I would have liked to finish it with Dawson too, even if both characters grew up apart in the last few years. See, it’s your turn to guess if I ended up with Dawson or Pacey. But I will say that when the series is over, Joey is very happy.
TELESTAR: Offscreen, for now 3 years, you seem to enjoy spending time with the actor Chris Klein…
Katie: Yes, even if we don’t see each other as much as we would like because of work. But when we can see each other, we try to spend some time alone, together.
TELESTAR: You attended Kerr Smith’s wedding this past summer, it didn’t make you think about doing the same with Chris ?
Katie: (she smiles) All I can say is that the next time you’re gonna see me at a wedding it’s going to be my cousins, at the end of November.
TELESTAR: Nicely done !!!
Katie: But you know it very well: I always protect the people I love and I never talk about my private life. It’s a treasure that I keep for myself.
TELESTAR: Since the end of Dawson’s Creek, you haven’t stop doing movies. You just went to the Toronto festival to present “Pieces of April”.
Katie: This drama tells the story of a young girl with a black boyfriend, who is forced to deal with her anger towards his mother when she learns she has cancer. This movie was a real challenge for me to do because I come from a very good and strong family who always supported me and just loved me.
TELESTAR: Next thing, you’re the president of the United States’ daughter in “First Daughter” that just wrapped up ?
Katie: This is the story of an unique girl, with all the looks turned on her. She falls in love and in the same time needs to deal with who she really is. It’s funny and romantic at the same time. People always ask me if I was inspired by Chelsea Clinton. I would have really like to meet her but it didn’t happen. I’m really wondering how she resisted to all this pressure.
TELESTAR: Is it easier for a young actress ?
Katie: The first daughter never asked to have all the attention turned on her. For an actress, that is a good thing.
TELESTAR: What did you keep from the teen you were playing in Dawson’s Creek ?
Katie: My teddy bear, I’m crazy about him ! In my bedroom, I still have the one my mom bought to me when I went to New-York to do modelling. I was very young. There is a sentimental value about it. When I travel alone, my teddy always comes with me.
