Thanks to the good folks at Empire Movies, we now have a larger pic of the poster from Pieces of April Folks who live outside of NY and LA will have to wait a bit before they get to see Pieces of April or The Singing Detective (I'm going with both movies opening on October 17th). But how long exactly? That's tough to say, but TSD director Keith Gordon offered an opinion on the IMDb mb: (*note..a poster on the IMDb forum asked KG if it would help if they wrote Paramount Classics re getting the movie shown at an indie theater in her small town, etc) Hi Judy, Spoke to Paramount Classics. They said the theater asking for the film would count for a lot. Going into smaller markets is an economic gamble with an art house type film, so if the theater owner is confident they have an audience for it, it makes the distributor more likely to go for the idea. (No promises, though...) They also said it would likely be at least 6 weeks after the NY/LA opening before the film will get to smaller towns, because there are likely to only be a certain number of prints made, and those will play in the bigger markets first, before being moved into the smaller towns. Obviously, how well the film does with audiences will also have an effect. If the film can do well in the 'medium' markets (the Austins, Portlands, Boulders, etc.), Paramount is much more likely to try and expand into even smaller markets. As far as writing Paramount Classics, I don't know if it will help, but it certainly couldn't hurt.
