Much thanks to "Nike," who got a chance to catch a very early viewing of Katie's next film, "Abandon.": ------------------------- Things you should know….I did not view the final cut so things WILL be different. The music and scenes will most likely be a little different than what I saw (A couple of scenes still had the green screen in BG)...These reviews are unbiased: Short background on the film.... Two years ago Katie’s boyfriend, the extremely wealthy and dramatic play/chorus director Embry (2 years older than Katie) (Charlie Hunman) vanished without a trace. Now a detective (Bratt) is assigned to find out what has happened to the extremely wealthy ex-boyfriend of Katie. With the Detective bringing the missing case back under the light, Katie begins to spot Embry around campus and comes to believe that he is stalking her. One of the better scenes of this semi-thriller is of Katie in the library finishing up her thesis when she falls asleep and wakes up to hear her name being whispered and a note on her desk “I am watching You”. Katie and her stalker are both in the library at the same time…very suspenseful. The problem is that this is one of very few scenes that is actually a suspenseful. Being a psychological thriller with only a few thrilling scenes is not a good thing. Negatives: The actors just don’t fit the roles….Benjamin Bratt does a decent job as the recovering alcoholic detective but he always seemed a little lost and dazed. The audience couldn’t help laughing at several parts in the film of which Bratt was involved…he turned out to be the comic relief even though we wasn’t meant to be. Charlie Hunnam who plays the TOO perfect Embry just doesn’t scare me enough. It’s as if some Male model is coming after you..how scary. Katie’s “buddies” are nothing special since they aren’t really involved in the film. The only non-katie character which I enjoyed was the librarian girl,,,(I don’t know her name since the credits hadn’t been added to this cut yet)..she was the cooky, funny, and freaky girl who was always in the library when Katie worked on her thesis. The movie just isn’t as thrilling or scary as it should and could have been. Dude…only a single person is actually killed in the film. There is no fear of really anything for the audience. If it wants to be called a psychological thriller…it NEEDS to thrill….but it doesn’t. There is only a hand full of scene where the audience feels slightly involved and startled or frightened. Some postives... The plot is a decent one…but during some parts it just gets a little too predictable (kinda..)…even thought the ending does give it a little twist. The music was a very good part of the film…. The directing and photography was quite exceptional….especially when the camera was on Katie….they made her look fantastic. One thing I wanted to add....This will probably be Katie's biggest film yet...and make the most money. I have a feeling it will have a wide appeal even though the actors aren't big enough to carry the film and the story is rough around the edges. Overall Grade of the Film…..7.4/10 Compared to her other films...it will the biggest money maker...and 2nd or 1st in film quality. Of course you guys may see the film differently….A few people said they enjoyed it….and some people said they didn’t like it. I heard someone say to their friend “I feel bad for having to review the movie so negatively” (everyone had to fill out some questionnaires ) and another person said “I was on the edge of seat”…but either way You’ll want to see this movie over and over for Katie. |
