Thanks again to mags for this interview/article Chris gave in a British magazine called "The Face":

From THE FACE (british mag.) (december 2001 issue

From article entitled “the hollywood portfolio 2002”

[…] CHRIS KLEIN
Election (1999), American Pie (1999), Rollerball (1002), We were soldiers (2002)

Chris Klein’s laugh enters the room before he does. A full-bodied hoot, it’s the perfect sonic accompaniment to his muscular frame, happy-go-lucky grin and USA wholesomeness. It also makes perfect sense. Life feels good for Chris Klein right now, what with all the kudos, awards ceremonies and fresh new scripts nestling in his backpack.

Born outside Chicago and raised in Nebraska, the 22-year-old actor was a quarterback in high school when director Alexander Payne asked him to play the sweet-tempered jock who tries to out-smart Reese Witherspoon in Election. His easy charm and cheerful demeanour struck an instant chord and he’s since moved effortlessly from comedy (American Pie) to romantic drama (Here on Earth) and the killing fields of Vietnam (We Were Soldiers).

Yet Klein’s most anticipated appearance will be in newt year’s blockbuster-in-waiting, the remake of 1975’s classic future-shock thriller Rollerball, which will co-star rap veteran LL Cool J, Gallic iceman Jean Reno and swimsuit model Rebecca Romijn-Stamos. In preparation for the film –which centres on a gladiatorial sport in which participants fight to the death – Klein trained with skaters in Calgary, Canada, and worked on making his body ‘bigger, faster, better, stronger’.

The physical improvements will be appreciated by women across the world, but Klein remains firmly committed to long-term girlfriend Katie Holmes – a relationship whose beginnings could have been scripted by Hollywood itself.

‘It was in New York’, he says over breakfast on a bright California morning, ‘where all romance begins. I was in the city working on a Calvin Klein ad, she was off from Dawson’s Creek. That same evening we went to a little 24-hour cafe on 8th Street in the East Village. We had a milkshake.’ His smile grows. ‘Cut to two years and four movies later and e’re still together.’

The perfect life, then? Klein lets loose another all-conquering laugh. ‘No complaints here! Keep it coming! I’m ready, willing and able. I’m a happy man!’ He reaches over and grabs the menu. ‘Hey, anybody want some juice?’
