Thanks to everyone who sent this in From Canoe Katie Holmes' stalker admitted to hospital OTTAWA (CP) -- An Ottawa man whose crush on Dawson's Creek star Katie Holmes has landed him in criminal court will spend the next month at Royal Ottawa Hospital. Michael Willis, 36, is charged with two counts each of criminal harassment, making harassing phone calls and mischief. He appeared briefly in court this week only to have the matter adjourned until next month to give his lawyer, Sean May, and Crown prosecutor Jo Ann Meloche a chance to work on an agreed statement-of-facts. Although Willis pleaded not guilty, May said the facts aren't the issue, only his client's mental health. Willis was remanded to the hospital until his hearing continues. From E! Online Katie Holmes' Stalker Problem It's one thing to love Dawson's Creek. But it's an entirely different thing to call Katie Holmes's father and claim you're engaged to her. That subtle difference was made clear in Canada, where a 36-year-old man has been remanded to a mental ward while awaiting charges that he made harassing phone calls to the WB cutie's father (we're presuming to get his blessing for the nuptials). Ottawa resident Michael Willis is accused of criminal harassment and mischief after he allegedly called the home of Martin Holmes and also wrote to a lawyer for NBC's corporate parent, General Electric, the Toronto Sun reports. Prosecutors say Willis--a former Rhodes scholar--repeatedly called Holmes's dad to discuss his "engagement" to the 22-year-old actress. He also allegedly called and wrote letters to GE lawyer Ben Heinman, demanding that NBC pay him $50,000 because he claimed Tom Brokaw and his news staff were stealing his story ideas. Willis has pleaded innocent to the charges, with his lawyer claiming Willis should not be held criminally responsible because of his mental health. He will spend the next month at Royal Ottawa Hospital while his lawyer and prosecutors work out some technical matters in the case. Holmes's publicist did not immediately comment on the case. The Ohio-born actress' recent big-screen credits include Wonder Boys and The Gift, but she's best known for her small-screen role as Joey, the dimpled darling of Dawson's Creek. Production on the WB show's fifth season began last month in North Carolina, and the season premiere is set for October 3 at 8 p.m. From IMDb News Katie Holmes Stalker Slapped In Nut House Various news sources report that Ottawa resident Michael Willis, 36, was placed in a mental ward, awaiting evaluation after allegedly making harrassing phone calls to the father of Dawson's Creek star, Katie Holmes. Willis, who shares the honor of being a former Rhodes scholar with Bill Clinton, is said to have called Holmes's father to discuss his "engagement" to 22-year-old Katie. He is also reported to have been harrassing legal counsel for NBC, claiming Tom Brokaw and his news staff were stealing his story ideas. Willis's lawyer is pleading not guilty by reason of insanity and Willis is expected to be held in the Royal Ottowa Hospital for the next month while his case is worked out. |
