But at a luncheon Wednesday hosted by the magazine, survivors of torture and rape were invited to tell their tales before celebrities such as Jane Fonda, Sally Field, Katie Holmes and Salma Hayek. "We're becoming more and more aware that we live in a very dangerous, complicated world," Field said. "And it is most especially dangerous and complicated for women." The matriarch of ABC's Brothers & Sisters said she hopes change is in the air. "I'm excited to have the end of this current administration coming toward us," she said. As for a specific candidate? "I'm really open at this point." Fonda, who says she'll support Democratic candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton, believes "it's about time" for a woman to move into the White House. "It's still early, but I will give Hillary support. And I will give Mr. (Barack) Obama support. And we'll see what happens. Both of their candidacies are very exciting." The luncheon was chaired by Glamour editor in chief Cindi Leive and Vagina Monologues playwright Eve Ensler, whose organization, V-Day, helps rescue women from atrocities. Ensler congratulated Holmes on motherhood (daughter Suri is 10 months) and complimented her white suit. Holmes was then introduced to honorees from Afghanistan, Haiti and Sierra Leone. Also there to listen and learn: Mandy Moore, Rosario Dawson and Marisa Tomei. Leive singled out Fonda, saying, "She set the example of a celebrity who was daring enough to stand up for causes at considerable personal risk," paving the way for others such as Susan Sarandon and Angelina Jolie. Fonda, who donated $1 million to V-Day and serves on its board, said she was "deeply thrilled" to be part of the charity. Fonda also was pleased that her Georgia Rule co-star, Lindsay Lohan, checked into rehab. "I'm so happy to hear that," Fonda said. "She's very, very good in this movie. And it was such a joy to work with Felicity Huffman — no diva, no ego. Totally solid." ======================= Thanks myma!
