USA Today: Holmes dishes on Cruise, motherhood and her career

Katie Holmes "definitely" wants to have more children with husband Tom Cruise and says she fell in love with the actor "from the moment that I shook his hand for the first time."

The actress, who married Cruise in a fairytale wedding in November, dishes about the actor, her daughter Suri and her career in the March issue of Harper's Bazaar.

"I have a husband and children that I adore. I have a career that I really love. When I sit back and reflect, it's-wow! I am very grateful," she tells the magazine. "Tom makes me feel like the most beautiful woman in the world and has since the day I met him. I love being with him. I love calling him husband."

OTHER TIDBITS: On her first date with Cruise: "Here in Los Angeles, my first motorcycle ride…to the beach. It was amazing and fast. I was in love from the moment that I shook his hand for the first time."

On motherhood: "I felt so proud to be having a baby and so excited. And I felt closer to other women-to my sisters, to my mom. I felt empowered, like 'I've given birth. I did it! There's nothing I can't handle."

"I've really enjoyed this time that I have taken to be with Suri as well as the challenges of the first couple of months: feeding and pumping, learning to decipher what each cry means-is she hungry? Is she tired? Does she need a fresh diaper? And figuring out how to really help her."

On her career: "I have a whole new set of responsibilities. My work is very important to me. My family is very important to me. When I go to work, it will be the right thing, worth my time and worth my time away from my family."

POLITICO JUNCTION – by Liz Smith

IT PAYS to socialize - or it did for the chief of Harper's Bazaar - one Glenda Bailey, a Brit who has become very American over the last 10 years as she has shepherded the Hearst fashion mag to prosperity. Its newsstand sales have actually increased, and it has grown by 30 percent.

The editor-in-chief was in Paris in October having dinner at Baccarat with Victoria Beckham and her very good friend Katie Holmes. Glenda suggested that Katie pose for a Bazaar cover and Victoria be the fashion stylist for her pal, the relatively new Mrs. Tom Cruise. Now it has all paid off.

There's Katie looking glorious on the March cover as clicked by Peter Lindbergh. This is Katie's first interview since her big wedding in Italy, but I'm afraid if you are expecting any inside revelations from Katie, as told to writer Sarah Bailey, you'll be disappointed. She says things like: "I feel very lucky. I have a husband and children that I adore. I have a career that I really love. When I sit back and reflect, it's - wow! I am very grateful. Tom makes me feel like the most beautiful woman in the world and has since the day I met him. I love being with him. I love calling him husband."

Well, what do you expect of a young 28-year-old brand-new mother married to a movie legend and still basking in the glow of her honeymoon?

Katie Holmes: 'I Am Very Grateful'

Actress Speaks Out in First Interview Since Marrying Tom Cruise

Feb. 1, 2007 — When recounting her husband, her daughter and her career, 28-year-old actress Katie Holmes is filled with gratitude.

That's what she told Harper's Bazaar in an exclusive, first interview since her marriage to Tom Cruise.

"I have a husband and children that I adore," Holmes said in the December interview. "I have a career that I really love. When I sit back and reflect, it's — wow. I am very grateful."

The article's photographs were styled by Victoria Beckham, Holmes' friend and the magazine's guest fashion editor, in Los Angeles. This special fashion issue of Harper's Bazaar is on newsstands Feb. 20. Harper's Bazaar Editor in Chief Glenda Bailey came up with the idea of pairing Beckham with Holmes when the three of them dined together during fashion shows in Paris in November.

In the stylish photos that accompany the piece, Holmes comes across as strong and confident, Articles and Special Projects Director Laura Brown told "Good Morning America" today.

On the set of the photo shoot, Beckham and Holmes were like girlfriends, according to Brown. Although, on the surface, their friendship may seem unlikely, they actually have a lot in common as they are both married to icons, are young mothers, and are frequent tabloid fodder.

Beckham and Holmes were introduced to each other about a year and a half ago by their husbands.

Husband and Wife

In the interview, Holmes didn't shy away from talking about her famous husband, whom she married in a high-profile wedding on Nov. 18, 2006, in Italy.

"Tom makes me feel like the most beautiful woman in the world and has since the day I met him," Holmes said. "I love being with him. I love calling him 'husband.'"

"I have a whole new set of responsibilities. My work is very important to me. My family is very important to me," she said. "When I go to work, it will be the right thing, worth my time and worth my time away from my family."

Holmes, whose last movie was "Thank You for Smoking," said she would like to work with her movie-star husband.

"He's the biggest movie star ever, and he's an unbelievable actor," she said. "It would just be a real honor."

Life as a Mom

Holmes described her pregnancy as easygoing. During it, she had a craving for one thing: cupcakes.

"I felt so proud to be having a baby and so excited and I felt closer to other women — to my sisters, to my mom," Holmes said. "I felt empowered, like, 'I've given birth. I did it. There's nothing I can't handle.'"

Her daughter, Suri Cruise, was born April 18, 2006. Holmes said she was enjoying the challenges of motherhood.

"I've really enjoyed this time that I have taken to be with Suri as well as the challenges of the first couple of months: feeding and pumping, learning to decipher what each cry means. Is she hungry? Is she tired? Does she need a fresh diaper? And figuring out how to really help her," she said.
