Caught in the Act!

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, feeding each other and kissing throughout a birthday dinner for Cruise's mom Mary Lee Mapother at the Wynn Hotel's SW Steakhouse in Las Vegas. When the group (which included Cruise's kids Isabella and Connor) left the restaurant, a fellow diner approached the couple and asked, "You guys here for your wedding?" Cruise and Holmes just laughed.

CRUISE CONTROL

As rumors about a wedding again pick up, Tom Cruise – who's sporting a very Zac Efron-like (High School Musical) hairstyle – and Katie Holmes dine at the Beverly Wilshire on Tuesday.

TOM AND KATIE SNEAK OUT FOR A PERFECT DATE -- WITH HIS MOM!

Under heavy security, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes jetted off to Las Vegas on Friday for a gourmet dinner and spectacular evening of entertainment — both hoping to make his mother's 70th birthday celebration one of the most memorable nights of her life!

Leaving baby Suri at home under the watchful care of a nanny, Tom and Katie boarded a private jet bound for the desert oasis, joined by his mom Mary Lee and his kids Connor and Isabella, as well as five other family members and a pair of security guards.

After a special birthday dinner at SW Steakhouse at the Wynn hotel and casino, the gang hustled off to the Mirage to catch the Cirque de Soleil's Beatles tribute show, Love. Also in the audience were music legend Prince and Star Wars creator George Lucas.

But the real star of the evening was Mary Lee. When Tom And Katie brought her and the family backstage after the show, the entire cast and crew broke into a rendition of "Happy Birthday" in her honor. "Tom's mom was just beaming," an insider says.

Mingling comfortably with the Cirque de Soleil performers, Tom and Katie glowed with appreciation. "They were arm in arm," another observer tells Star. "They looked happy and cozy. There are a lot of kids in the cast, and Tom and Katie spent time with them praising their performance."

But the festivities weren't over yet! At 10:30 p.m., Tom and Katie took the whole party to see a standup comedy performance by Tom's good friend Jay Leno, who was also headlining at the Mirage that night.

They were all home the next day in time for Connor's football game at a field in Pasadena. Tom and Katie, both in jeans, watched proudly from the bleachers along with Isabella and Mary Lee — just another American family on a Saturday afternoon.

The DVD clinic movie review of "Thank You For Smoking" - Joblo.com

THANK YOU FOR SMOKING is Jason Reitman’s way of telling his dad, former comedy directing king Ivan Reitman, “It’s time to pass the torch…you must give your cape and scepter to ME.” The younger filmmaker’s feature debut has more laughs, wit and vitality than any of Reitman Sr.’s films from the last 15 years.

SMOKING works first and foremost as a clever and hilarious satire, not just of the tobacco industry itself, but of our "blameless" modern society in general, and the equally oblivious counter-culture. It takes some brutally funny jabs at everything from mass media and Hollywood to politics and parenting. Hearing Nick Naylor defend smoking to a class full of ten year olds is almost as ridiculous and side-splitting as Rob Lowe’s idea for a cigarette-laden sci-fi epic starring Brad Pitt and zero-gravity sex. That being said, there are enough serious human moments that give the film much-needed emotional weight to keep it grounded is some realm of reality. And unlike a lot of less focused and cheap-shot satiric films, this one manages to avoid being annoyingly preachy or one-sided. If anything, Reitman comes off as incredibly well-informed about every issue he presents, even if he’s completely destroying it.

The young director assembled an amazing cast his first time out—William H. Macy, Maria Bello, David Koechner, Robert Duvall, Sam Elliott, Katie Holmes to name a few—and although most are just glorified cameos, there’s not a weak link in the bunch. But the anchor of this entertaining ship, and the man who honestly deserves most of the credit for THANK YOU FOR SMOKING’s success, is Aaron Eckhart. Echkhart is ruthlessly funny with his smooth talking and far-reaching analogies and even makes Naylor’s despicable qualities seem charismatic as hell. Based on what I’ve seen of Eckhart in other movies, the man is not an obvious choice for this kind of sleazy/lovable character, but now I can’t picture anybody else in this great role. And in this case it’s a role that really makes the movie.

THE EXTRAS

While it’s mostly fluff pieces, there’s a nice variety of material present on the disc.

Commentary by director Jason Reitman: Reitman is quite funny and down to earth but there’s a good bit of quiet time, as if he wants to hear all the funny parts himself.

Commentary by Reitman and actors Aaron Eckhart and David Koechner: A nice mix of serious conversation and funny goofing around. I’m not sure why we need two commentaries; this one is much livelier and covers a lot of the same stuff as the previous one. And let us not forget one thing—Champ Kind rules. Whammy!

Deleted Scenes (15:35): Thirteen clips; there are a few funny bits, but most are just filler.

The Charlie Rose Show (18:22): I’m a big fan of Mr. Rose’s show and this episode is no different. With the director, producer, star and author of the original book all present at the table, the conversation covers all different aspects of the movie in an intelligent and entertaining manner.

Unfiltered Comedy: The Making of THANK YOU FOR SMOKING (8:57): By “Making of” they obviously mean a ten-minute advertisement with bits of interview strewn in.

America: Living in Spin (4:56): A quick glimpse at the world of “spin” (i.e. professional lying), be it in politics, the news or even [gasp!] Hollywood.

Galleries: Separate collections of Posters, Storyboards and various Artwork.

Cap it off with a Theatrical Trailer and a Soundtrack Spot and you can call it a night.

Thanks Katie for sending this via e-mail!

“I was watching Law & Order (premiere ep) tonight and Katie was mentioned. The character being interviewed was talking about a guy who claimed to have $5 million photos in his house. When asked what could be worth that much, the guy responds "pictures of Katie Holmes and her birth". He (the photographer) bribed a nurse to let him get a pinhole camera in there." The lawyer went on to say that was crap and the character agreed, but said that the photographer got drunk couple nights ago, and wouldn't shut up about it. (that's where the subject got changed - but I loved that they mentioned Katie - that was awesome!)

Klein rubbishes baby Suri gossip

Katie Holmes' former fiance Chris Klein has rubbished claims her new baby with Tom Cruise looks more like him.

Five-month-old Suri appeared for the first time on the cover of Vanity Fair magazine last month sporting blue eyes and thick black hair - prompting comparisons with the American Pie star, who split with Holmes last year.

But when quizzed by E! Online, Klein insists, "I've never had anyone ask me that before. It's definitely him, and they look so beautiful. I'm really happy for them."
