From: SFGATE.com Sundance Roundup: What Not To Miss … Those who like their comedies dark and satirical are sure to be amused by "Thank You for Smoking." Aaron Eckhart lights up the screen as a facile spokesman for the tobacco industry. Comparing himself to a guy who can pick up any girl, he brags, "I'm him on crack." His strategies are honed at brainstorming lunches with his counterparts working for big alcohol interests and gun advocates, a kind of death squad. "Smoking" has the staccato quickness of '40s comedies, relying on sharp dialogue more than visuals. There's a hilarious sequence in which Eckhart goes to Hollywood to bribe the powers that be to make a movie portraying smoking as sexy. A deal is cut with the proviso that it be set in the future to avoid criticism from the anti-smoking contingent. Director Jason Reitman does justice to Christopher Buckley's deliciously politically incorrect novel. From: The Australian.News Cruise, Holmes for Packer service HOLLYWOOD star Tom Cruise and his pregnant fiance Katie Holmes are expected to attend Kerry Packer's memorial service. The celebrity couple will be part of an impressive line-up of people attending the service for the late media mogul at Sydney's Opera House next week, today's The Australian newspaper reported. Mr Packer's son James, 38, and Cruise are good friends, sharing a common belief in the controversial Church of Scientology. NY Post (02/05/06) Thanks to Martin for these scans!
