Liz’s big night out with Tom and Katie
Dame Elizabeth Taylor put on her best smile when she was honoured at a US awards ceremony this week in
front of an audience which included current hot Hollywood couple Tom Cruise and his fiancée Katie
Holmes. In a rare but regal appearance the two-time Oscar winner turned up in a wheelchair to accept an
artistic excellence award from the Los Angeles branch of BAFTA.
Dripping with jewels and dressed to the nines, the star of big screen classics such as Cleopatra and Giant
looked in good spirits. A massive diamond sparkled on her left hand, while her ears glittered with huge ruby
and gold earrings. Chatting with the veteran actress with Tom by her side, Katie looked delighted to have the
chance to meet one of the industry's iconic figures.
Dame Elizabeth, whose own love affairs in the past dominated the headlines, now describes acting as
"artificial" and prefers to devote herself to charity work. Despite her ill health, the actress continues the
pioneering AIDs campaigning role she took on in 1985.
"There's still so much more to do," she said recently. "I can't sit back and be complacent, and none of us
should be. I get around now in a wheelchair, but I get around."
Other guests on hand to see the Tinseltown legend honoured included Sir Anthony Hopkins, Cilla Black,
Lady Victoria Hervey and Office star Lucy Davies.

Interview reeks of vulgarity
November 11, 2005 -- 'I DON'T need food to impress, man. It's a flash of a smile and a nice conversation. And at
the end of the day, she's cooking the food." That's how actor Chris Klein answered Elle magazine's Andrew
Goldman on the possibility of his ever fixing a meal for a date.
This response was the least offensive entry in one of the most vulgar, misogynistic, egomaniacal, ludicrously
overconfident interviews ever made public. (He beats Tucker Carlson's Elle sit-down by a mile!) The actor must
live in a fantasy world of women falling at his feet — or at least below his waist. Klein insists his past ladies would
all say, "We ended on good terms." I can only assume these women were lobotomized before he set them free.
In case you're not up on pop culture, Chris was tight with Katie Holmes prior to Katie's becoming fascinated with
superstar Tom Cruise. Tom has been the subject of a lot of criticism. I will say only this: Whatever Tom Cruise is,
he is not a Chris Klein. And if I were Katie Holmes, I'd be really happy about that. (Though she does seem to go
for dominant men!)

Chris Klein on Life After Katie
Chris Klein and his former fiancée Katie Holmes – who's now engaged to Tom Cruise – don't talk anymore, Klein tells PEOPLE in
its latest issue, but, he's not looking for sympathy.
"I'm dating. I'm out and about," he says. "I do a lot of surfing, some weight work, yoga." But his main joy is his work. "I find myself
really inspired to continue pushing myself."
That may be an understatement: Klein, 26, has five movies due out in the next year, including the comedy Just Friends, opening
Nov. 23.
Of his five-year relationship with the future Mrs. Tom Cruise, he says, "I look back on Katie and my time with her with a great
fondness. The opportunities that we had to be together, to be in love and grow together, are something that I will always cherish,
and I know she will too."
Not that he doesn't express concern about her recent foray into Scientology. "I hope that she's making decisions that are making
her happy," he told TV's Access Hollywood, "and that she doesn't have people in her life leading her astray."
As for Klein, has he any inclinations of his own toward marriage and parenthood? "Boy, I think I do," he admits. "A couple years
ago, I sure did. It seemed a whole lot closer than it seems now. But, you know, life takes crazy turns. … Do I think it’s a feasible
option that I’d like to experience down the road? Yeah. But is it something I see in the near future? Not even close."
As for what kind of mother he thinks Holmes, who is expecting her first child with Cruise, will be, Klein says: "I think she'll be great."

Have I told you how obsessed with poker I am these days? Let's see, if I were to deal out a few gossipy cards right
now, I'd say we've got two queenie pairs with Tom 'n' Katie and Will 'n' Jada (friends from Collateral,
remember) dining up at San Francisco's veddy elegant Ritz-Carlton for a swell din-din with the kiddos (on both
sides).

Hands-on-honey

Tom Cruise gets a feel for pregnant fiancée Katie Holmes's burgeoning belly at Thursday's Britannia Awards in Beverly Hills,
hosted by the British Academy of Film & Television Arts. Cruise received the Stanley Kubrick award for film (he starred in the
director's 1999 movie Eyes Wide Shut).
Paying Tribute

At the BAFTA Awards, Cruise and Holmes get chummy with the evening's top honoree, Dame Elizabeth Taylor, who made a rare
public appearance to accept the Britannia award for artistic excellence in international entertainment.
