From: USA Today Nuggets glint of Oscar gold Robert Wilonsky, who writes for the Dallas Observer, says, "I loved (the satire) Thank You for Smoking. I really liked Philip Seymour Hoffman in Capote because I hate biopics and Hoffman made me care." * As for smaller movies that could break out of the pack, Thank You for Smoking, directed by Jason Reitman, son of Toronto native Ivan (Ghostbusters, Stripes), was a hit with critics and the public. The smarty-pants script, based on the novel by humorist Christopher Buckley, is about a tobacco lobbyist (Aaron Eckhart) who reinvents glibness as duty to country. The film caused a flap when executives at two companies, Paramount Classics and Fox Searchlight, both thought they had acquired it for distribution in the USA. When the smoke cleared, it was Fox Searchlight who will distribute, sometime in 2006.
