Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes: More in Love Than Ever
“I always dreamed about marrying Tom. He was an idol for most girls of my generation.”
They are back in Rome, the place where 3 months ago, Tom Cruise and
Katie Holmes made their love public when the famous actor was awarded
the David de Donatello Award. On this occasion, the couple’s stay in the
Eternal City is due to the filming of the third installment Mission Impossible,
which took place in the Tiber River. Inseparable at all times, Katie kept Tom
company even while the actor was filming a high speed chase in a boat. Once
on firm land, the couples spontaneous romantic attitude were constant, as it
can be seen in the pictures that accompany this article, which show how in
love they are. (missed a sentence her, sorry, folks)
Days before traveling to Italy, we were able to talk to Katie about her feelings
for Tom, as well as her life and family.
- I can’t deny the evidence - says Katie - but that doesn’t mean that I’m any
different from the lesser known girl I was months ago. Even though I have
seen others go through what Tom and I are going through now, it continues
to surprise me that people pay so much attention to what happens between us.
And what is happening between you?
KH: Well, we are in love, it’s that simple. They have made such a fuss out of
something so natural and logical, that I’m a little scared. I know it’s part of
the game, but I think what’s going on is excessive.
But you were the first to jump into that game. What do you say about that?
-We didn’t have to hide something that (missed this word). When we came
out in public for the first time in Rome, we did so being very consequent thinking
that it was the logical thing to do. We thought, perhaps wrongly, that since
everything was out in the open they would leave us alone a little.
Something difficult. You make up an addictive couple.
-It appears so, but all will go back to normal. What I don’t want is to have to
be giving accounts of what we do or don’t do all the time. I would like to
have moments of privacy with Tom without a camera near by. I suppose after
we are done with the promotions for our movies, things will return to normal.
Are you aware of that is being said about your relationship?
-Sure, but I’m not going to start validating rumors. I’m not going to play the
game of denying what others make up. If things go beyond a certain point,
actions might have to be taken, but I try not to listen to the assumptions people
who don’t know us make.
Legend has it that as a girl you used to dream about Tom Cruise.
I dram I was going to marry him!-(laughs). I think it’s just an anecdote, a
coincidence. All girls dream of their idols and so did I. Tom was an idol for
most girls of my generation.
Are you on your way to making your dreams come true?
-Right now, we still haven’t discussed a wedding, if that’s what you are
asking about. We’ve been together for a short time and we are still getting
to know each other. Time will tell...Right now, we are just a normal couple....
or at least that’s what we try to be!
What is the woman I have in from of me like?
-Contrary to appearances, I think I am a person of character, determined, with
a clear idea of what I want, I’m not in a rush to achieve all my professional
goals, with the right amount of ambition, my vanity in check, very anxious,
a little shy and...right now very happy.
Do you feel like the star in a dream?
-In a way, because all that has happened to me has been so unexpected, it has
been like that gift I was talking to you about before. Certainly life up to now
has given me more than I dreamt was possible. One day, I chose not to go and
study and dedicate myself to this adventure and the surprise that life had for
me was that my foolishness was going to pay off.
Tell me a bit about your family.
-Well, I’m from the Midwest and we are all very close. My mom (Kathy) is a
home maker, tall, beautiful and very talkative. My dad (Martin) is a lawyer.
He was a basketball player. He is a “teddy bear”. I am the youngest of three
sisters and a brother.
You say you had a happy childhood.
-I had a very happy childhood. I grew up very protected and naive, but I
liked that.
More about Tom. What else do you like about him?
-What else do I like about Tom? Ok. He is the most amazing man I’ve ever met.
The most intelligent and the most generous. The best artist, the most incredible.
I love him.
Well, what’s the real story? Did you meet at the church of scientology or did
he call you for something?
- I don’t know. We had a great date. He is the most incredible man in the world.
Is there nothing negative about it?
-I’m in love with Tom Cruise!
What is the first thing Tom said to you when you met him?
-Hi.
What’s the first thing you said to him?
- (in a flirty tone) Hi!
