TOM TO MEET KATIE'S PARENTS! TOM CRUISE is already laying on the charm. The actor recently called the parents of his 26-year-old girlfriend Katie Holmes -- twice! -- at their Toledo, Ohio, home just to say hello. Tom, 42, is laying the groundwork for a visit to Ohio to meet his sweetheart's parents. The buzz in Toledo is that Tom and Katie "intend to fly into Toledo from Los Angeles by private jet in the next few weeks and stay a few days with the Holmes family," a local official tells Star. "Everyone here is excited about getting a glimpse of Tom Cruise." A PERFECT MATCH? While they may cherish the idea of seeing Tom roaming their streets, the citizens of Toledo are decidedly undecided about whether he's the right man for their 26- year-old homegrown girl. "What is he -- like two times her age?" wonders one of Katie's old pals. "I hear her parents are concerned about the age difference." Indeed, while Katie's parents, Martin, a lawyer, and Kathleen, a homemaker, are publicly expressing support for their daughter's relationship, they're privately concerned about her new love interest. "I think they mean it when they say they'll roll out the red carpet for Tom," says a close family friend, "but I think they'd be happier with someone a little younger and with a better record when it comes to relationships." People in Katie's hometown are quick to point out Tom's 0-for-2 track record in the marriage department (he split from first wife Mimi Rogers after almost three years in 1990, and his 10-year union with Nicole Kidman ended in 2001). "Katie always seemed like she was waiting for Mr. Right -- and I don't think she's found it with Tom," says a regular at the Old Dog Saloon, one of the actress' local hangouts. "Tom has two ex-wives under his belt, and I don't want Katie to be another notch." THE RELIGION ISSUE Others cite the couple's religious differences as another red flag. Tom is a devout Scientologist, while Katie, the youngest of five, comes from a close knit Catholic family. One nun at Notre Dame Academy, the all-girls Catholic high school Katie attended, is praying that the actress doesn't switch faiths. Says the sister: "I just hope she remembers her Catholic roots and doesn't convert to Scientology!" Still, another hometown supporter just wants the best for Katie.
