February 13, 2005 -- KATIE Holmes is now a New Yorker: The 26-year-old "Dawson's Creek" star rented a West Village apartment this month. She's keeping the house in Los Angeles she shares with fiance, actor Chris Klein, but she wanted a place in Manhattan while shooting "Thank You for Smoking" with Robert Duvall. Klein is in Canada on his latest film, "Just Friends." "Katie spends a lot of time in New York and she wanted to get a place for herself," says a friend. "This is closer to home for her. She likes to walk around and not be bothered. She can actually have a life here." There have been reports that the star and her fiance were splitting, especially after a fight in L.A. restaurant Maggiano's last year. Not so, says her rep, stating, "She still has the ring on. They are still engaged." Holmes settled in by hitting Fashion Week events including a BCBG party at Aer. Note - the way this story is written, not sure if it means that she is renting the apartment for the "Thank You for Smoking" shoot, or will keep it longer -c |
